Digital Home Thoughts: Univeral Threatens to Sue YouTube, MySpace

"Universal Music Group CEO Doug Morris blasted video hosting site YouTube and online community hangout MySpace, accusing them of copyright infringement and alluding to forthcoming legal action. At a conference for investors in Pasadena, Morris said that the two sites owe Universal tens of millions of dollars and that actions to deal with the sites will be "revealed shortly," according to news reports. Universal had been in talks with YouTube, but no agreements have been reached and Morris' comments suggest that negotiations may have deteriorated. YouTube and Universal entered talks after the video portal site became wildly popular. Talks with MySpace, owned by News Corp., are also still ongoing, although neither company will comment on any progress."

I have one word for you, Universal: Estupido! Have you guys even been to MySpace or YouTube? If you had, you'd have seen that they're not pirating sites. The resolution at YouTube is so low you have nothing to worry about. No one pirates music or videos using MySpace (OK, there might be a couple). In fact, these sites do so much PR for your artists and movies that you should be paying them. If you go through with these lawsuits, you will find yourself alienating thousands of MySpace and YouTube users, not to mention people like me that don't use either site, but are just plain ticked off at your new method of bringing in revenue. :evil:
