"InterVideo®, Inc. and its partner Ulead Systems, Inc., leading supporters of the HD DVD standard for high-definition video production and playback, announced today their HD DVD product offerings for DVD playback and multimedia creation will feature DTS™-HD audio support and support for content encoded in VC1, Microsoft® Windows® Media™-based format...Microsoft's VC1 video codec is an ultra-efficient, fully scalable video technology that produces high-quality video at low data rates. With VC1 support, InterVideo-Ulead customers can enjoy video resolutions of up to 1080p--approximately six times the resolution of today's DVD video. The HD DVD format also provides higher disc capacities than the current 4.7GB DVD formats--an HD DVD disc will provide up to 30GB (15GB per layer) for storing rich, crystal-clear content."

HD DVD drives have barely hit the streets, and already software companies are offering the tools consumers will need to edit and burn their own HD DVD discs. I might have to look into this myself, as my fiance and I are currently trying to figure out what to do about hiring a videographer for our wedding in May. I'm of the opinion that we should just buy or rent a couple of HD Camcorders, and let family and friends shoot the 6 hours of festivities from their own perspective. She wants a professional videographer at a cost of $1500 USD (and up), and they only shoot in standard definition. Many of them still provide the finished footage on a VHS tape! For shame!
