"Ximeta Inc. has licensed its network-attached-device technology to Japanese peripheral manufacturer I-O Data Device Inc., portending a new generation of networked peripherals such as DVD players.
To date, Ximeta, Irvine, Calif., has shipped a line of external hard drives containing its NDAS technology, which connects the hard drive to an Ethernet-based network. Ximeta executives said the company has now moved into a second business phase, where it will license its technology to OEMs to increase its market share."

The I-O Data relationship will bring NDAS-enhanced DVD and CD burners to Japanese consumers onlyfor now according to Ximeta. However, they do hope to expand worldwide. The news article also gives information that future products will include drives that are connected via WiFi, as well as media jukeboxes that will be part of a home network. The company is also considered trying to sign a deal to attach NDAS to printers.
