Samsung Develops Amorphous Silicon LCD

"Samsung Electronics announced the world's first a-Si (Amorphous Silicon) 2.6-inch TFT-LCD with VGA (300ppi) image quality. Using a-Si technology, mobile phone displays are now capable of projecting the same VGA format found on notebook PCs and desktop monitors. With almost seven times the resolution of a 42-inch high-definition LCD TV at 300 pixels per inch (ppi), an a-Si enabled mobile phone can be used as a high quality mobile TV."
The article goes on the explain the current industry standard in film transistors for LCDs and how this new technology compares to it. It is also nice to note that Samsung's latest LCD is a transflective model (200:1 contrast ratio and 150cd/m(2) brightness), which means you will be able to see the screen in bright sunlight. So Samsung is putting out those cell phone TVs, and if coupled with this display, it might be cool to sit outside and watch TV on your phone, no? :) Mass production of this technology is expected to begin late this December.
