"LaCie has added to its Bigger Disk range of external storage devices with the Bigger Disk Extreme (160x86x269mm, 5kg), a 1.6TB hard disk array that consists of four 400GB (7200rpm, 10ms average seek time) hard disks. Designed for archiving large amounts of data, such as images, video and audio, the 5.25in. (2U format) device connects to your computer using either one of the two FireWire 800 ports or the single FireWire 400 port, and requires no driver or software installation for systems running Windows XP and Mac OS X. Finished in a stylish aluminium case that dissipates heat, the Bigger Disk Extreme comes with a matching stand that allows you to use the drive in either a vertical or horizontal position. Companies interested in the device for backup purposes may be pleased to know that LaCie offers an optional rack-mounting kit that lets you install the drive in a standard 19in. rack. The drive also features an automatic on/off feature that helps to conserve energy and prolong the life of the drive, according to LaCie. A Kensington-type lock is also present for added security either at home or in a busy working environment, and you also get some backup software thrown in."

Archiving data is always a pain. As soon as I burn a DVD or CD, I need the data back on my drive. Well if you have the money (about $1,200) LaCie has the answer to you. Its big (takes up 2U in a rack), but being able to just plug in one device and go is worth something to many people. Just think about what these devices will look like within a year. :way to go:
