HP's All in One HP Z1 Reviewed

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 07:52 PM

http://www.trustedreviews.com/hp-z1...sktop-PC_review

"The HP Z1 is a beauty of a 27in all-in-one PC. Not only is it meticulously built and the only one of its size and class to offer height adjustment, but it's packed with connectivity and features like an adjustable 1080p webcam. It's also the only AIO that's fully upgradeable - in fact it's easier to upgrade the Z1 than any other PC we've ever reviewed. All this is complemented by a gorgeous 27in, 10-bit, 2,560 x 1,440 IPS display and stunningly good speakers. Throw in its workstation certification, and it justifies its premium pricing."

All in one computers tend to have a lot of compromises, but the Z1 from HP aims to minimize as many of those as possible. Yes, if your computer or your display die, you'll lose both of them. On the other hand, HP has done a really impressive job of making the machine user-upgradeable. Check out the review for all the details!

Epson WorkForce 635 All-in-One Inkjet With 802.11b/g/n

Posted by Richard Chao in "Digital Home Printing" @ 02:00 PM

http://www.crunchgear.com/2011/03/0...inkjet-printer/

"All-in-Ones are the merkins of the tech world: everyone needs one but no one wants to talk about them. That's why I'm proud to lift my head high and say, unequivocally, that Epson has ironed out all of the kinks that come with this kind of printer and, in the process, built a handsome and usable device for home, office, or home office."

For those of you in the market for an all-in-one inkjet printer capable of two-sided printing and 5760 x 1440 optimized dpi, Epson has the Workforce 635 ready for your consideration. The 635 is capable of connecting via hi-speed USB 2.0, ethernet and Wi-Fi with b/g/n support. A quick search on Amazon shows them available for about $139.00 or you can purchase it directly from Epson's website for $149.99 after $50.00 instant rebate.

HP Omni Pro 110 PC: The All-in-One Business PC

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 02:30 PM

http://www.ubergizmo.com/2011/03/hp...mni-pro-110-pc/

"HP has just announced a new all-in-one, space saving, clutter-free PC designed for small businesses. Called the HP Omni Pro 110 PC, this computer places all the internals of the computer into a 20″ widescreen."

This looks like HP's answer to the likes of Lenovo's M90z; an all-in-one computer design tuned for office use. I used to be fairly negative on the all-in-one concept, but since testing the M90z my stance has changed: unless you specifically have plans to upgrade your computer over time, there's literally almost no reason to go with a desktop computer. They're bigger, usually noisier, and don't offer many advantages beyond being able to upgrade them. That said, in my office I have three desktop PCs that are in near-constant use, and I wouldn't replace any of them with all-in-one designs. I deeply value the ability to upgrade and modify my desktop computers - and also the ability to use whatever monitor(s) I wish.

Lenovo M90z: Got Any Questions?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Talk" @ 03:30 PM

http://shop.lenovo.com/us/landing_p...entre/2010/m90z

I've been asked to take part in a reviewers' program for the Lenovo ThinkCentre M90z - you might think of the M90z as the bigger brother to the A70z (which I've unboxed and reviewed); it has a bigger screen (23.5 inches) that's optionally touch-enabled (my review unit is), 2 GB to 4 GB RAM, a 320 or 500 GB hard drive, a variety of CPU options ranging from the lowly 2.8 Ghz Intel Pentium G6950 up to an Intel Core i5-650 clocking in at 3.2 Ghz. There's also an HD webcam, a chassis that's easier to open and upgrade, and a few other features that the A70z lacked.

My plan is to implement the M90z in a slightly different way than usual: I want to set it up as a kitchen computer. The touch screen is a key component for that scenario, but without any special touch screen software (a la HP TouchSmart) I'm curious to know how well it will work.

Before I get started with the unboxing and first impressions video, are there any things you want to make sure I cover in the first video, or the subsequent review video?

Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z All-in-One Desktop Computer Review

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

This is my review video of the Lenovo ThinkCentre A70z, an all-in-one desktop computer designed for the SOHO market (small office/home office). If you haven't already watched my unboxing and first impressions video, check that out first.

This is a corporate-looking machine, so it doesn't win any awards in the looks department, but it gets the job done in a compact, power-efficient manner. Prices start at $499 USD; the model I was sent for long-term review costs $729 USD. The A70z I was sent has an Intel Core 2 Duo E7500 CPU running at 2.93 Ghz, 2 GB of RAM (upgradeable to 4GB), a 320 GB 7200 RPM hard drive, an Intel GMA X4500 GPU, built-in 802.11b/g/n WiFi, a 19" 16:10 matte screen (1440 x 900 resolution), built-in 1.3 megapixel Webcam and microphone, a CD/DVD drive, and built-in speakers. Lenovo Gets Creative Promoting the ThinkCentre A70z

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 03:00 PM

I haven't had much time to spend with the Lenovo A70z I was sent for review yet, but in discussions with Lenovo learning more about this product, they let us know about this video they had made - it put a smile on my face! I think it's great when companies get creative about promoting their products, and it certainly drives home the "no clutter" part of what this product offers.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Shuttle Update The X50V All In One PC

Posted by Andy Dixon in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 02:00 AM

http://www.slashgear.com/shuttle-xp...anless-1677855/

"It's been a while since Shuttle outed their XPC X50 Barebones all-in-one, and so it's about time that they updated it. Rather than rework the case and change the color, the new Shuttle X50V2 Barebone has Intel's latest Atom D510 processor, paired with the NM10 Express Chipset, but also gets completely passive cooling and halved power consumption."

I like the idea of these all in one touchscreen PC's but I just have no idea where I would use one, except perhaps in the kitchen as media streamer. Either way, there must be a market for them as Shuttle have upgraded the X50 with the X50V2. It's the same case with a new CPU, increased memory capacity, more ports, and it is fanless making it virtually silent. The price of $484 (pre-tax) is a little high considering you still need to add memory and a hard drive in to it, however I guess you're paying for the convenience of a nice small, all in one unit. So do you have or want a PC like this? I'm interested to know what and where you would use it in your home.

Dell's New Touch Screen All-In-One

Posted by Chris Gohlke in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 05:00 AM

http://www.dell.com/content/product...s=19&l=en&s=dhs

"Reach out and explore the Studio One 19’s 18.5" display with optional multi-touch screen functionality on a choice of 4 color fabric trim options or Solid Pure White trim border. Crystal clear 16:9 widescreen flat panel HD display. User-friendly touch applications with optional multi-touch screen. Powerful NVIDIA® graphics with up to an Intel® Quad-Core processor. Optional wireless keyboard and mouse and optional built-in WiFi."

Wow, a very sexy design from Dell! Well at least the white one is. The other colors do look a bit ugly to me. Touch screen models start at $799. I like touch screen on a mobile device but I just don't see them being very ergonomic in this configuration.
