"Sony chairman Howard Stringer made no bones about Sony's intention to dominate the transition to 3D. "We intend to take the lead in 3D." Stringer said. "We are the only company fully immersed in every part of the 3D value chain." Indeed, Sony makes most of the cameras used to create 3D content and it has announced its intentions to launch a 3D network in the U.S. with the Discovery Channel as a partner."

I was walking by a Sony store today and saw that they were already advertising their 3D TVs. Being the gadget geek that I am I had to check it out. The TV was very very impressive. Not quite as good as Avatar in 3D, but close if you stood in the correct spot in front of it. The glasses were a bit bulky, but the tradeoff seemed worth it for the stunning picture. The demo material had a soccer match in it, and I am now a believer in the theory that sports may be the killer app for 3D. I am definitely going to hold off on upgrading my old 36" Sony tube until these are available. Unfortunately, they couldn't provide timing, or more importantly pricing on the set.
