Microsoft RTM's Windows Home Server, Will Be Made Available via "System Builders"

"Microsoft announced today that Windows Home Server has been released to manufacturing (RTM). Major Microsoft partners will be receiving final code in the coming weeks, which means we'll start seeing official server products based on Windows Home Server sometime in September. HP, Gateway, Fujitsu-Siemens, Lacie, Medion and Iomega have all announced products based on WHS. "System builder" code, which is partner-speak for the shrink-wrap "OEM version," should be available in approximately two month's time, which is also when a 120-day evaluation copy should also rear its head. French, German and Spanish editions won't be far behind."

Windows Home Server has hit RTM status (Release To Manufacturing), which means it's code-complete and headed off to the companies that are going to be making the servers (such as HP). That lines up with the Microsoft marketing materials stating that Windows Home Server would be available in fall of 2007. The availability through the "system builder" channel means you should be able to buy it from places that sell OEM software today (NewEgg, Tiger Direct, etc.). Good news for geeks everywhere - this is a great v1 product. It doesn't do everything I want it to, but it does the basics very, very well.
