Micron Buys Lexar for $700 Million

"US memory firm Micron snapped up Lexar for $700 million. The Californian firm makes flash chips using NAND technology. It was a rival to Sandisk, which is going great guns right now. And Micron’s acquisition is logical, given the fact that it’s seeking to diversify its business and cash in on the flash cash cow."

Crucial owns Micron, who has been diversifying this past year with Flash memory products, USB flash drives, etc. The acquisition of Lexar will no doubt push them further down this path. I've somehow managed to never acquire a single Lexar memory card, always prefering Kingston and Sandisk.
