Ripping Directly to the Player

"Toshiba has introduced a line of Gigabit players that come with a cradle; on that cradle is a “CD RipRec” button that rips whatever CD is in the computer tray directly to the MP3 player. Cutting out the middle step of transferring ripped tracks from the computer to the device is an important shortcut. Any one-button rip functionality brings MP3 portability a lot closer to a lot of people."

I can honestly say I thought of this already. I've been telling friends for over a year about my idea for an iPod dock with a built-in cd drive that would rip CDs directly to your iPod, skipping your computer entirely. Track info could be downloaded via CDDB automatically, and it would be a 1-touch rip process. Apparently Toshiba thought it was a good idea too. I think a lot of DAP buyers underestimate just how long it takes to rip a CD collection, and get discouraged once they find out. I know I did.
