Samsung Developing 5MP CMOS sensor

"Samsung Electronics Co., Ltd., plans to start sampling soon a CMOS image sensor (CIS) with 5 megapixel QSXGA resolution. Volume production of the device, targeted at mobile phones, digital cameras and camcorders, is expected to commence by the end of the year. Samsung says the 5M-pixel CIS performs at the same level as its charge-coupled device (CCD) counterpart, yet it operates on less power and is more price competitive."
We are getting very close to where cell phone cameras are as good as consumer digital cameras.
