Power Compress 2005

"Power Compress is the Windows XP Media Center Edition (MCE) plug-in everyone has been waiting for! Power Compress makes it easy for you to convert your recorded TV shows from DVR-MS to Windows Media format. All your recorded video files can now be converted into a format that is up to 10 times smaller than the regular MCE format! Power Compress Pro is supposed to add the ability to convert DVR-MS files to AVI (no word on what codec’s are supported)."

The above blurb is from Chris Lanier's blog. This looks like a useful program for MCE owners, but I find it quite curious that there's no price listed anywhere on the Web site, and you have to log into their eCommerce server before you can even see what it costs (which I haven't done - turns out it's $19.95). There's also no trial version...another strike. Still, it looks slick and very well refined. If you're looking for a free alternative, there's always dCut, but I warn you it's pretty rough around the edges and is still in beta. Create a System Restore point before installing it. Any MCE owners tried out Power Compress 2005 yet? What do you think of it?
