Apple Plans to Acquire HipSolve Media

"While sources were hesitant to say that Apple's interest in HipSolve primarily stems from curtailing the growth and usage of solutions like iHoopla, that could effectively be one outcome of bringing the product under the iTunes umbrella. Sources close to HipSolve Media say a deal could be announced as early as next month, although it's unknown whether the firm is leaning towards joining Apple or another suitor."
This is certainly a bizarre arrangement. What would Apple want with a company that provides a solution which essentially competes with iTunes? Not to mention the impact it would have on relations with major record labels who currently parter with Apple. Or is Apple pulling a Microsoft; buying up a competitor just to put them out of business?
