"Six years ago, if you'd mentioned the three letters SLI to a gamer, you would have been greeted with wide eyes and wild excitement. Why? SLI (scan line interleave) was a new concept that promised no less than improved gaming performance and playable frame rates at what was then an unheard of 1024x768 resolution with a Z-buffer enabled by combining the rendering power of two Voodoo 2 add-in cards. Since then, we haven't seen anything of the sort commercially available."

Ahh, but that is going to change. With the introduction of PCI Express, using two graphics cards in parallel is once again going to be possible. nVidia is planning on setting up the NV40 (chips on the GeForce 6800) chips with similar functionality as 3dfx's SLI. So basically when you find your system unable to crank out the large number of FPS you desire, all you will need to do is simply stick in a second card. This formula worked for the Voodoo 2, making it a bestseller many years ago. Anyways, TomsHardware has this article analyzing exactly what you will need to do to fulfill the SLI requirements.
