the INQUIRER - Low Temperature Panel Factory to Produce 3 Watt LCDs

"Toppoly, a division of notebook giant Compal, is set to build a fifth generation low temperature polysilicon display factory at Hsinchu science park. Toppoly, according to the Taiwan Economic News, will be able to churn out 100,000 big panels a year in 2006, when the factory is up and running."

Why is this important? Well a 3 Watt LCD screen would mean a much longer battery life than current LCDs (which use 10 Watts or more). These 3 Watt LCDs could show up in just about everything from handhelds and notebooks, to TVs and appliances.
