"In an interview with Reuters Nikon's managing director Makoto Kimura has stated that Nikon will be increasing production of the D70 by 20,000 units per month to a total of 90,000 units per month and will begin to move out of production of film cameras, starting with compact film cameras. To quote Mr Kimura, "There is still the matter of timing, but eventually we will have to dissolve this business,... ...there really is no region in the world where you can do good business in compact film cameras anymore.""

Very interesting, though not surprising. Ever since I got my EOS 10D, I have been on the look out even more as to what cameras people are carrying these days. I live about 1/2 a block from the Empire State Building and about 10 blocks from Times Square, plus I go through Penn Station every day. Now, for even those of you that don't know New York City well, I think you will realize that I live in tourist central and pretty much see millions of people per day. :-) (Yes, I have a point to telling you all this).

So, I am noticing that more and more people are carrying DSLRs these days. It used to be a lot of Canon 300Ds in the beginning (I definitely did not see very many of those because I don't think too many people could afford them). But over the last few weeks, it seems like everyone is carrying a D70. I guess this news pretty much confirms that.
