"Digital music players have quickly become the latest must-have gadget, although their batteries may wear out long before their popularity. The latest players can store thousands of songs, virtually an entire collection. But in the case of the most popular digital player, Apple Computer Inc.'s iPod, and several others, the rechargeable batteries can falter after only a year."

Great article on battery technology used in today's MP3 players. Particularly the stuff about iPod vs. other digital audio players. Apparently Apple uses a Lithium Ion in the current models, while using a Lithium Polymer in the first generation iPod's. This is why the new iPod's have poorer battery life compared to earlier models, lasting just two years. Of course, the situation could be helped if the designers at Apple had made the battery user replaceable.
