A New Take On Mouse Design

"To use the mouse, simply place your hand over it. The swiveling base and higher design naturally adjust themselves to fit your hand, and it bends slightly back and forth as you work. It's hard to describe, but in practice it's almost startlingly comfortable; my wife and I both found ourselves using it with our laptops very quickly. The mouse is wireless, and it uses a micro transceiver that unobtrusively plugs into one of your system's USB ports. We tested the mouse on both PCs and Macs, and it worked great on both."

From time to time you come across a new way of thinking about a standard computer peripheral. Case in point: Smartfish Technologies has patented a new pivot system (ErgoMotion) which they have integrated into a new mouse design. The new design allows the mouse to pivot in almost any direction. The net impact is the mouse will allow your hand and wrist to assume a "Dynamic Neutral Position" as you move the pointer across the desktop. Smartfish believes the design is ergonomically advantageous, and has quite an impressive technical team behind the design. A video on the Smartfish website gives you more details on exactly how this works in practice. The company has both a notebook and desktop version of the mouse, and also has an ergonomic keyboard that sports a very flexible bevy of possible positions. If you read comments from people who have used the mice you will find a mixture of results, which is not surprising given that the new design may take some getting used to. If you have ever suffered from a repetitive strain injury, like I have, then you'll appreciate that getting used to a device like this might be well worth it.
