Couple Hits Snag Over Splitting Family Photos

Posted by Reid Kistler in "Digital Home Articles & Resources" @ 05:30 PM

http://www.mnfamilylawblog.com/2010...laroids-pronto/

"When M.R. and E.R. decided to call it quits after more than 20 years of marriage, they had no trouble agreeing on how to split the marital home or how to handle custody of their children. But when it came to figuring out how to divide more than 7,000 photographs, the picture got blurrier."

Jake Ludington (Mediablab.com) sent along a link to the above story (which, in turn, draws from an article taken from the New York Law Journel), and, at first, my thought was "Gee, that is sad - but how does this story apply to 'Digital Home Thoughts?'" Of course, upon reflection, the situation presented poses several questions to ponder for those of us with an interest in photography, and particularly those who are also either married or in some other long-term relationship: 1) How difficult would it be for you to part with a significant portion of the photographic prints you have taken over the years? 2) If asked for advice, what method(s) would you recommend for duplicating photographic prints, notably Polaroids or other prints that lack negatives? And, 3) Given the rise of digital cameras, is this scenario one that is only likely to happen with people above a certain age (and what would that age be, approximately?), or has the recent increase in popularity of "instant prints" resulted in more hard copy only prints?

Photofiddle Turns Photos Into Artwork

Posted by Hooch Tan in "Digital Home News" @ 08:30 PM

http://www.geardiary.com/2008/09/05...hotofiddle-way/

"Photofiddle produces their artwork on canvas (unframed and rolled), art prints (unframed and rolled), as framed artwork, or as canvas wrapped on stretchers. Prices can vary wildly, depending upon the end size and the style chosen. I was told my Photofiddle design would be of the canvas wrapped on stretchers variety, and that my size choices would be 18? x 18? (if I chose a square piece), or 24? x 16? if I went with a more traditional rectangular design."

A while ago, GearDiary took the opportunity to try out Photofiddle, a website that specializes in taking photos and turning them into various kinds of prints. It starts with uploading, or sending them a photo, which they jazz up with a wide variety of filters and touch up tools. You can then opt to have your final result placed on a canvas or print. The touch up tools are nice, though nothing special compared to what you might finder with an online photo editor. However, the ability to put a photo on canvas or print makes Photofiddle stand out. Honestly, I'm not sure if I'd make any prints for myself, as I'm not a photo album kind of guy, but, I can imagine a few people who would definately appreciate these as gifts!
