Microsoft Skydrive Features Enhanced

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Digital Home Talk" @ 05:30 AM

http://techcrunch.com/2012/09/18/mi...ve-recycle-bin/

"Microsoft just announced a few small but interesting updates to its cloud storage service SkyDrive. Just like your desktop, SkyDrive will now offer a recycle bin that allows you to recover files you may have accidentally deleted."

If you are using Microsoft's Skydrive cloud storage service you may have noticed a change of late. Their new recycle bin feature allows you to delete and restore files with a few simple clicks. They have also announced that a new Excel-based web survey tool will be included in their Skydrive offering. More details are available by clicking on the Read link.

Kindle Leads The Way As Favorite ereader

Posted by Brad Wasson in "Digital Home Talk" @ 06:00 PM

http://lifehacker.com/5826280/five-...t-ebook-readers

"A few weeks ago, we asked you which ebook store you used to get your favorite books onto your ereader. This week, we wanted to know which ereader you preferred to read those books. We collected your votes, and now we're back to look at the ones you nominated."

Lifehacker recently did a survey where they asked site visitors which was their favorite ereader. The top five choices included the Amazon Kindle, Barnes and Noble Nook/Nook Color, Apple iPad, Sony Digital Reader, and the Kobo. Each device has its pro's and con's, of course, but each one can definitely get the job done. I personally own a Kindle, which I really like and use almost daily, but I have to say that the Barnes and Noble Nook Color device is moving in a very interesting direction. It will be fun to see what they do with it next. The Read link has more information about the survey results.

Which Shift Key Do You Primarily Use?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Laptop Thoughts Talk" @ 12:00 PM

After reading Chris' post about what makes a perfect keyboard, it got me thinking about Shift keys. In Canada, many laptop brands ship their laptops with a French/English keyboard, and when they do, the left shift key is cut in half to make room for an extra French-language key. The net result is that any touch typist trying to use that keyboard, if they're not accustomed to it, will constantly be missing the left shift key. I'm one of those people, and I flat-out refuse to purchase any laptop that doesn't have a full-sized shift key. That means no HP laptops for me - every single one of their consumer laptops sold in Canada have the shrunken left keyboard; it's one of the main reasons I tend to go for Dell laptops. I'm pleased that Apple allows you to choose what kind of keyboard you want on your laptop and wished more companies offered users that choice. If I primarily used the right shift key, however, I wouldn't have my choices curtailed.

What about you? Which shift key do you primarily use? I use the left shift key 100% of the time - never even touching the right-hand shift key.

Take the SMB (Small/Medium Business) Survey, Maybe Win a Prize

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Thoughts Media Off Topic" @ 10:32 PM

I've had a crazy week, so I'm just getting to this now, but it's important so keep reading: if you're a small or medium-sized business (SMB) owner or decision maker, please take a few minutes and complete this survey. The information is being collected by some trustworthy friends of mine at Ivy Worldwide, and when you complete the survey (I did, it took about four minutes) you'll be entered in a random drawing to win a Lenovo A70z (valued at $729 USD), an LG Bluetooth headset, an LG Bluetooth stereo headset, or an LG Bluetooth solar car kit & emergency charger. Fast, simple, and prizes to be had. What could be easier? The survey closes today (Monday) though, so act fast!

Win a Voodoo Envy 133, or One of Three Lenovo IdeaPad S10s

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Events" @ 03:00 PM

http://www.notebooks.com/color_survey/

"We're giving away one Voodoo Envy 133 and three IdeaPad S10s in a drawing that kicks off today. Here's you chance to win the world's an Envy 133, which is the world's thinnest notebook. The IdeaPad S10 is Lenovo's entry into the ‘netbook' and one of my favorite affordable notebooks. Earlier this year we gave away an HP HDX worth over $5,000 and it's really exciting to be giving away some more hot notebooks."

The Voodoo Envy 133 is one sexy-looking notebook - when I look to replace my Dell XPS M1330 (probably in late 2009), I'll be looking at the Voodoo Envy line. Xavier from Notebooks.com has a great contest going on where filling out a survey is all you need to do to be eligible for the random drawing. Unfortunately it's limited to residents of the United States only. If one of you win this, just send it up to me, ok? Thanks. ;-)
