Sony Rumoured to be Working on 3G-enabled Digital Camera?

Posted by Lee Yuan Sheng in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 04:00 PM

http://photorumors.com/2011/03/10/r...-3g-connection/

"Gdgt reported a rumor that Sony is working on a digital camera with integrated 3G connection. This will not be another smart phone, but rather a Cybershot camera that will allow instant upload of images online via an integrated 3G connection."

I have mentioned that I would like to see a connected camera in 2011, and Sony (unfortunately in my case) might just be the first to the market with one. I am wondering how well it will sell once it comes out: Will it be taken hostage by tyrannical North American carriers, just like every other device that sports a cellular radio? I hope not, because this is an area where cameras can stand to innovate, and having a non-traditional obstacle is not going to help things.

Canon 60D DSLR Coming with Swivel LCD Screen?

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 04:00 PM

There you have it. Is that a 60D with a swivel screen? I've looked at the original under a high zoom and enhanced the shadows a bit...and I think this is legitimate. I didn't see any tell-tale signs of pixel manipulation, so to my eyes, this is the real deal. And as the owner of a D5000, I have to say that I think Canon got this one right - the D5000 flips down, and this flips out - I think flipping out gives you more versatility. What say you Digital Home Thoughts readers? Is this a real image of a forthcoming Canon camera, or clever Photoshopping?

Straight from the Rumour Mill: Nikon's D700

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 03:42 PM

http://blog.wired.com/gadgets/2008/...-d700-broc.html

"After the disappointing fake Nikon D90 comes a much more plausible looking Nikon D700 rumor. These shots are supposedly from a leaked print brochure for the new body, and show the D700 to be a full frame, 12.1 megapixel, $3000 camera. This is the same CMOS sensor as used in the top-of-the-line D3, which should bring the amazing low light performance (up to ISO 25600) the new Nikons are getting famous for. Inside you'll find 14bit A/D conversion and 16 bit image processing courtesy of Nikon's EXPEED processor, 51 focus points, a single Compact Flash slot (come on Nikon. Switch to SD already), and a tough magnesium body."

Given the very significant pricing gap between the D300 ($1800, body only) and the D3 ($5000, body only), it's not surprising to see rumours about a "middle-ground" camera that has a full-frame sensor, but lacks some of the high-end features of the D3. I'd put this one in the "probable" category of rumours.
