The Untold Story Vivian Maier, Prolific Early 20th Century Street Photographer

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Articles & Resources" @ 11:00 AM

"Seriously, I mean "must see." If you do nothing else this week, you should watch the video of Chicago Tonight's telling of the Vivian Maier story. A terrific presentation of one of the absolute best stories in American photography from the decade now ending. Or American and French photography, I should say, since Maier was Franco-American."

Take 10 minutes out of your day and watch the above video - it's fascinating stuff! The pictures are incredible - such perfectly captured moments of such a long time ago.

The Unflappable Rally Photographer

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Talk" @ 05:00 PM

Three words: balls of steel. The guy nearly gets killed in what would have been a massively ugly accident, and a second later, he's snapping a picture. Clang clang!

There And Back Again: A Photographers Olympic Journey

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Articles & Resources" @ 10:00 PM

http://blog.newsweek.com/blogs/olym...e-olympics.aspx

"I'm not sure there's an event I ever cover that requires as much advance logistics planning as the Olympics. Travel plans start up to a year before The Games, and from there on you continue to prepare until the games begin. In this post, I will discuss how I did my best to prepare for these games in advance, and how I packed all of my equipment for the Olympics-something that took well over a month on its own in the end. (You can find a gallery of how I packed my equipment, and a detailed explanations of each step here.)"

If you've ever wondered what the life of a professional sports photographer is like, I only have one word for it: wow. This story explains some of the preparations for his trip to shoot the Olympics in Beijing. And over on his blog, he details how many shots he came back with: a staggering 28,444 photos, 480 GB worth. I'll say it again: wow. Definitely worth the read...
