The Microsoft Mouse 2.0 Project

Posted by Eriq Cook in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 11:00 AM

"Microsoft's Mouse 2.0 project is an interesting look at the next step for pointing devices in five completely different versions of multitouch mice. One of the things I liked about the Mouse 2.0 news is that we put our cards on the table at a very early stage and asked what the public thought. Speak up, we're listening."

Here's your chance to give your feedback on upcoming input devices and make a difference in what we'll be using in about 5 years :) I personally think touch-sensitive may be a little difficult to get used to, but perhaps they could improve the concept better. What are your thoughts on the concepts shown?

New Logitech Mice Are Glass Friendly

Posted by Hooch Tan in "Digital Home News" @ 11:00 AM

"The so-called Darkfield laser technology may sound a bit pseudo-scientific, but in reality the tracking is still done by your average, garden variety lasers - two of them, to be exact, working together. On glass these lasers work using dark field microscopy (hence the name) to track imperfections (scratches and cracks), rather than reading the surface proper."

I have to admit that I rarely need to use a mouse on a glass table, but it has happened. I also admit that there is a mousepad that comes with me whenever I venture out into the world with my laptop. Logitech has felt my pain and has come up with Darkfield laser technology to solve what ails me. Most likely a response to Microsoft's Bluetrack mice, Logitech's new Performance Mouse MX and Anywhere Mouse MX work on pretty much any surface, including glass. It is also nice to see that you can charge the mouse while using it, eliminating the need to bring a spare set of batteries. I'm skeptical that Darkfield works as well as Logitech claims. Anyone willing to bite the bullet and see if these work as advertised?
