Saying Hello Again

Posted by Lee Yuan Sheng in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 01:41 PM

Well, it's finally happened. Jason, after numerous attempts, has managed to get me on board as a Contributing Editor for Digital Home Thoughts. Those of you who have been reading this site long enough know I tend to contribute on and off for photography-related posts, so that's exactly what I'll be doing this point forward in this official capacity.

A little background: I've been shooting since I was 12, on Dad's Olympus OM1, and over the years have shot a fair number of subjects and interests, as well as gone through quite a few systems (Dad being quite the gearhead himself helped in that aspect). Currently I'm a two-system person, using Nikon and Micro Four-Thirds systems. Subjects-wise I've just about shot in most of the traditional genres of photography, and generally place myself as a centrist in photography; you need a bit of everything to do well. A critical eye for art and beauty, a solid grasp of the technical fundamentals, as well as having the right gear (note, RIGHT, not best).

I'm looking forward to contributing to the Digital Home Thoughts team, and also, I'd like to thank Jason for giving me this opportunity; sorry it took you so long!

Yet Another “New Guy"...

Posted by Reid Kistler in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 04:00 PM

Apparently Jason is indeed determined to OUT SOURCE as much work as possible. :) Either that or he simply felt it was politically imperative to have someone represent the - ahh - More Experienced Thoughts Media audience....

eWallet's entry for "PocketPCThoughts" says my Password was changed in Aug 2004, so have been hanging around for a bit (what happened to the early posts?! Sorry - rhetorical question...), and, along with the other new Trainees, am hoping to make a more consistent contribution to a site that has proved informative and fun to visit. Read more...

Greetings From Another New Contributing Editor

Posted by Jon Childs in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 06:00 AM

Hello Digital Home Thoughts community! My name is Jon Childs and I have also volunteered to be a new contributing editor. I have been around, mostly lurking, since I got my first Cassiopeia E-105. Although I have to admit after using a couple of Pocket PC phones from AT&T, I made the jump to the iPhone. I have been interested in all different kinds of gadgets since my parents hooked an Atari 2600 up to an old black and white TV for me.

In my real life I am a software engineer for a startup in the Boston area, so I am fairly well versed in most things computer related. I am married with two young sons, so driving to various sporting events and birthday parties does seem to take a bite out of my free time.

Digital Home Thoughts Upgrades News Posting Technology For The New Decade

Posted by Andy Dixon in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 09:00 AM

Digital Home Thoughts has prepared for the new decade with a new automated news posting technology that will allow Jason to relax, lie in bed, watch TV, spend time with his son, and play with his gadgets. This new technology is... me. Hello!

It seems I have volunteered for the job of contributing editor doing all the work Jason normally does, and doing it in my spare time too. Most of you won't know me, I've been a lurker on this site since the days before it was launched, back when it was just Pocket PC Thoughts. I first visited Pocket PC Thoughts when I got an iPAQ 3630 many years ago when I was looking for information on new applications and uses for this great little device I'd just bought, and I've followed it since as my devices changed and as Jason expanded his empire to include the other thoughts sites. Last of the New Contributing Editors

Posted by John Lane in "Smartphone Thoughts Site Updates" @ 11:36 PM

Hello! My name is John Lane and I the last of the new contributing editors. I live in Dallas, Texas, graduated from Texas A&M and work in the commercial real estate industry. I have been hooked on technology since playing Akalabeth in high school. I love this site, especially the topic choices and the brevity of the posts. I hope I can make a solid contribution. Plus, I won a prize (Roxio Share) here last year! I look forward to the new year!

YACE (Yet Another Contributing Editor)!

Posted by Richard OKane in "Apple Thoughts Site Updates" @ 06:00 AM

Hello everyone,

I'm thrilled that Jason has selected me to begin contributing to this site that I've been lurking for many years! Here are some things about me:

  • I live on the east coast of Canada, and work as a Project Manager for an IT firm. I have been with this company for almost ten years, also working in Support and Technical Publications.
  • My current PC is dual-core with 2 GB RAM and dual 160GB HD connected to Logitech's Z-5500 speakers. My monitor is 22", and doubles as a Star Choice satellite TV monitor through its DVI connection.
  • I love XM more than Sirius (mostly for the music - but it doesn't really matter now). However, I have both because of Sirius superior reception in Canada due to its satellite's figure-8 pattern.
  • I also hopped on the iPhone bandwagon! My first Apple product, and I am extremely pleased with it. As others say, it just works!

My wife tolerates my geekiness, my neighbours appreciate my geekiness, and my teenage children are beginning to surpass my geekiness. Cheers!

One of the New Guys

Posted by Timothy Huber in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 07:30 PM

I'm delighted to be able to introduce myself to the Digital Home Thoughts community as one of the new Contributing Editors. My name is Timothy Huber, and I formerly lurked around Thoughts Media under the forum name thuber. I grew up in Seattle and life has taken me to Princeton, Nashville, Phiadelphia, and the NYC area, where I now live with my lovely wife and two children. In my current day job I manage cellular contracts and carrier relationships for a large professional services firm. Over the course of my career in technology I've come to realize that it fascinates me: how it works; how we use it; and, most of all, how it transforms the way we live. I look forward to posting to the site and sharing my own thoughts with you.

Hello From the New Kid On the Digital Home Thoughts Block!

Posted by Tim Williamson in "Digital Home Thoughts Site Updates" @ 06:03 AM

Hello Digital Home Thoughts Readers! Sorry if you were expecting Jordan, Jonathan, Joey, Donnie, or Danny (I honestly didn't know the New Kids On The Block members by heart, thanks Wikipedia!). ;) You're stuck with me, Tim Williamson (formerly known as T-Will in the forums). I'm the newest member of the Digital Home Thoughts news team (although, I've been around as a reader for a few years) and will be helping out as a Contributing Editor. I work as a business analyst, but my main interests outside of work have always been computers, gadgets, photography, and music.

I became hooked on computers in kindergarten when my parents brought home our first PC, an IBM XT PC (they paid about $3000 for it back in the mid-80's!). I spent hours playing Microsoft Flight Sim 2.0 and a math game where the equations fell from the top of the screen [Editor's Note: I think that's Math Blaster], and you'd have to type the correct answer before they hit the bottom.

Electronic gadgets have always fascinated me; I remember I always wanted a PADD from Star Trek. This is one technology that has been snatched from the TV and into real life with the numerous PDA's and smartphones available today (currently I'm a happy T-Mobile Dash owner). :)

Believe it or not, when I was a kid I actually used to own a film camera, I even went to a photography camp for a week where we shot black and white and even developed the film ourselves! Recently I've been putting my Canon 10D DSLR and Canon SD870IS P&S through the paces.

Playing music and listening to music are also important to me. I play piano, organ, saxophone, and kazoo. When it comes to listening to music, I have a wide musical taste. Lately I've been listening to a lot of techno (gets me through the work day), but I also enjoy jazz, country, Christian contemporary, classic rock, classical, and any other good music. I hope you'll enjoy reading my posts as much as I've enjoyed being a reader of Digital Home Thoughts! :)
