Vivienne Tam Digital Clutch is Refreshed

Posted by Chris Gohlke in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 03:00 AM

http://www.notebooks.com/2010/03/04...ch-hp-mini-210/

"The new HP Mini 210 Vivienne Tam Edition, also known as the “Butterfly Lovers” Digital Clutch, will be available for sale on March 19th starting at $599 and if you can’t wait you can call and reserve yours today. In addition to looking good the new HP Mini 210 include s2GB of Ram, an Instant On OS, HP Quicksync to keep important files synced up between your netbook and main computer as well as HP MediaStream for streaming files on the go. Oh yes, and the ability to use the webcam as a “compact mirror” that’s just one click away."

Another pretty stylish laptop for the ladies. When these came out, I had no idea who Vivienne Tam was, but I asked my wife and she did, which I guess is the point. I'd like to see them develop something similar for the male aesthetic.

HP Unveils the new Vivienne Tam Mini...Sort Of

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 01:02 PM

http://www.techtree.com/India/News/...106288-893.html

"Chic and uber cool - that's the new digital clutch by the world-renowned designer Vivienne Tam and HP. Inspired by the classic Chinese love story concerto 'Butterfly Lover', often described as the Chinese version of 'Romeo and Juliet', the design features elegant butterflies that are brought to life on a champagne gold backdrop."

There's not much more to know about this beyond the design, and, according to Techtree, the screen size is moving up from 10.1 inches to 11.6 inches. It's not coming out until spring of 2010, which seems like a long wait, so we'll have to see what kind of specs it has. This very likely means that the next generation of HP Mini will also move up into the 11.6 inch screen range. I don't know if that move makes sense - the 10 inch screen on a netbook is the perfect blend of size and readability, and when I look at the 12 inch screen on the dv2 I see it as a laptop that's not that much smaller than the my XPS M1330. Although maybe this means the Vivienne Tam computer won't be a netbook at all - maybe it will be part of a new line of Windows 7-based notebook computers. Want to see more? Real World Reviews: The Vivienne Tam HP Mini 1000

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 07:00 AM

This is a new type of review that I'm experimenting with - rather than me doing an exhaustive review of a product, I'm giving a a product to someone else for a couple of weeks and asking them about their experience using it. I think there's a lot of value in real-world testing of products by people who aren't experts, because as much as I try to put on my "Everyman Hat" when I'm testing a product, I still carry bias with me. In this case, it was my wife Ashley who was given the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition netbook to use over a period of a month, because, hey, it's made for women so who better to test it?

Q: Let's start with first impressions. What did you think of the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition when you first saw it?

A: I loved it! I had no idea that any laptop companies had even thought of partnering with world class designers to make the laptops they were selling more aesthetically appealing to their customers - specifically women. Everywhere I take my HP Mini, I get tons of compliments and people asking me what it is and where I got it! It's definitely a great conversation piece.

Q: So beyond the initial impact of the design and colour, what did you think of the size and weight?

A: Again, I love this about it: it's so small, light and compact. I could put it in my purse and carry it with me to a meeting if I needed to. The only downside is the comparatively huge power brick and cables. With such a small device, it would sure be nice to have an equally small power brick! Read more...

The Ravishing Red Netbook: HP's Vivienne Tam Edition Mini 1000

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 02:52 PM

This is my video review of the HP Mini 1000 Vivienne Tam Edition netbook. Since the hardware and design of the laptop (other than the colour) is identical to the HP Mini 1000, please check out my HP Mini 1000 unboxing and first impressions video for my thoughts on that part of the experience. Just like the top-end HP Mini 1000, the Vivienne Tam edition runs Windows XP SP3, and in the configuration I was sent, costs $724 USD directly from HP. It has an Intel 1.6 Ghz Atom CPU, 1 GB of RAM, a 60 GB 4200 RPM hard drive, an SDHC card reader, two USB ports, 802.11 b/g WiFi, Bluetooth, and a 3-cell battery. Watch for an upcoming written Q&A interview with person who has the most experience using this netbook: my wife!

HP Vivienne Tam Wireless Mouse Valentine's Giveaway

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Events" @ 09:15 PM

Valentine's Day is only a few days away, and if you're the typical guy you probably haven't gotten anything for your wife/girlfriend/significant other. Digital Home Thoughts is here to help! HP has given us three of these very feminine Vivienne Tam wireless optical mice to give away. With Valentine's Day being so close, I figured it was time for a giveaway! I won't be able to ship them to the winners in time for the 14th, but you can print out the above photo and tell that special someone that they won one!

OK, here's the contest: post a reply telling me how your met your wife/girlfriend/significant other. So as not to exclude the single people out there (believe me, I remember what it was like), if you'd like to give this mouse to a close friend, go ahead and tell me how you met them. And hey, you never know what kind of sparks a fashionable mouse might create! The contest will close Friday night, around 10pm (GMT -7), and the three winners (chosen at random from among all posted entries) will each receive one mouse each.

UPDATE:Thanks for all the great stories everyone - I enjoyed reading them. And thanks for entering the contest! The three winners are: Dyvim, lynnroth, and srsabu. Each winner has been contacted via private message and they have 7 days to claim their prize. Have a very happy Valentine's Day, one and all!
