CaseCrown Cases: A Mixed Bag

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 11:00 AM

As you can tell from the video, the CaseCrown cases were a mixed bag of goodness and not-so-goodness. The three products I looked at were the 10" Classic Slim Case (in black, $25.92), the Camera Case (in nylon red, $9.41), and the Hard Drive Case (checkered, $9.21). All the products are quite affordable, but even with that in mind, the netbook case was a complete miss. It took an HP Mini 311 with an 11.6 inch screen to line up with the straps inside the case - and who wants to lose the corners of their display to see-through plastic? The 10" Classic Slim Case was clearly not designed netbooks with 10 inch screens - unless CaseCrown had a premonition that the new Dell Mini 10 was going to be almost an inch deeper than the first model.

A Near-Perfect Netbook Bag: Skooba Design's Netbook Messenger

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 08:00 AM

The third and final Skooba Design product that I'm taking a look at in this burst of laptop/netbook related products is their Netbook Messenger bag. It sells for $49.95 USD, and comes in Abyss Black, Blizzard White, Deep Ocean Blue, and Inferno Red. I won't repeat myself here - go check out my opinion on the colour of Inferno Red in this review. The bag measures in at 14.5"L x 12"H x 3"D and weighs a scant 24.8 ounces. It's a light, compact bag that's been extremely well thought out. Read more...

The Netbook Neo-Sleeve from Skooba Design

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 10:00 AM

Skooba Design was a bit slow to catch on to this whole "netbook" thing, but now that they have, they've come out with two products aimed specifically at netbook owners. The first is the Netbook Neo-Sleeve ($19.95 USD), a simple sleeve for netbooks, and the second is the Netbook Messenger, a full-on messenger bag for netbooks which I'll be reviewing later.

The Netbook Neo-Sleeve is made of neoprene, a soft, water-resistant material that's exactly the kind of protection you want for your netbook without it getting bulky. The Neo-Sleeve measures 12"L x 7.5"H x .75"D in size, and can carry a netbook up to 10.1 inches in screen size (or 11" x 7.5" x 1.5" in overall dimensions). This makes it perfect for netbooks such as the HP Mini 1000, HP Mini 110, Acer Apsire One, etc.

However, it doesn't handle the the larger HP Mini 311 or similar netbooks, including the new Dell Mini 10 that has a deeper chassis than the older Dell Mini 10. Just because your netbook has a 10.1" screen doesn't mean it will fit - make sure you check the measurements. I'd love to see Skooba Design release a slightly bigger version of this sleeve, built for 12" netbooks/notebooks. Read more...

The Camber from EVERKI: A Netbook Bag With a Built-in Workstation

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Hardware & Accessories" @ 12:07 AM

http://www.everki.com/index.php?/Sl...Case-Sling.html

"The Camber offers easy carrying and hard-shell EVA protection for fragile netbooks, ultra-portables, or ultrathin laptops up to 13". Inside the EVA shell, you will find a memory foam padded back panel and plenty of room for power adapter and accessories. The Camber's clever ‘incline' design allows the outer EVA shell to double as a convenient travel desk or lap stand for a vastly improved typing position. No more cramped hands from typing on a tiny keyboard."

The picture and video pretty much says it all - this is an innovative design that has a lot of interesting advantages. The $49.99 USD price tag seems a touch steep for a netbook bag, but if it's a quality bag, then it's something you'll use for years and is worth the investment.

Skooba Design Netbook Messenger Bag Giveaway

Posted by Jason Dunn in "Digital Home Events" @ 10:00 AM

Skooba Design is once again giving us the opportunity to give away some of their products - and this time it's their new Netbook Messenger bags ($49.95 USD). These small bags are a great companion to your small netbook, allowing you to travel light. I hate taking my netbook in the same laptop bag I use to carry a 13.3" screen notebook - and it's a laptopbag designed for a 15.4" screen laptop. Small computers deserve small bags, and that's what the Skooba Netbook Messenger bag aims to deliver.

Want to win? All you have to do is tell me what kind of a netbook or notebook you'd put in it (it will hold a netbook up to 10.5" x 7.5" x 1.5" in size), and what colour of bag you'd like. Three of the colours are pictured above, and it's also available in "Abyss Black". I'll be randomly selecting three winners from amongst all the entries.

This contest is open to anyone in the USA or Canada (sorry rest of world, shipping is too expensive on a large product like this). There's one post per person allowed, and the contest will stay open for one week, closing down on Monday the 30th of November at 3pm GMT -7. One entry will be selected randomly. All posts are moderated, so if it's your first post, it might take up to 24 hours for it appear.

UPDATE: Thanks to everyone that entered - it was neat seeing the variety of devices that everyone carries. The three winners, randomly selected, are: Steve Jordan, minikj, and Brad Adrian.

Featured Product
